The only way you get better at writing is continuing to do it. Read books and writing blogs. Study writing styles in published books. Partake in a few writing classes. Keep reading. Do writing sprints. Do writing prompts--all of this will help you in getting the story you want to tell down.
Know your first drafts will be bad so you have the motivation to grow in your craft to make them better.
You got this!
Check out my blog post for that one: 'When Writers' Block Hits...'
Coming to you live from a full time student, I can say that what's helped me the most is getting a schedule and sticking to it. I have a planner that I write literally everything in (if I don't, that assignment just isn't getting done). I note when my study time/homework is and then add in my writing time. During the school year it's usually at night, though I have been favoring afternoon/evening writing when it's summertime.
Sometimes you won't be able to write no matter what you do or how you plan; that's alright. I'll hold your hand when I say this: it's not the end of the world. Focus on your priorities first and then your time for writing will make its way in your schedule. Trust me.
By the time this post goes up, I'll have been writing for about 12 years. During that time I have worked on 14+ books (all unpublished, you won't find them!). I primarily write in the fantasy genre, though more urban/magic realism instead of epic/high fantasy. Not saying that I wouldn't venture into high fantasy one day, though...
Off the top of my head, you can expect Bold, Diverse and Faith Inspired fiction. It's known that I don't shy away from a few topics floating within the Christian world. I also make it a point to showcase as many cultures and body sizes as I can. You can also expect humor (I am quite sarcastic, in real life) as well as magic.
You will not get foul language from my novels. Crude jokes, yes, taking the Lord's name in vain, absolutely not. I may say "She cursed under her breath" but give no inclination as to what 'she' said.
Regarding romance content levels, my books will NEVER include open-door sexual content. If I am to include anything that's sexual, it will always be closed door. Kisses never go too intense: they're not spicy by any means, but some might have some 'flavor' in them.
Yes! Favorite authors include: Lucinda Riley, Jody Hedlund, & Cassandra Clare.
Favorite books/series: The Last Hours (Cassandra C.), American Street (Ibi Zoboi), Foul Lady Fortune (Chloe G.) duology, The Diviners (Libba B.) series, Fable (Adrienne Y.), duology, The Shanahan Match (Jody H.) series, The Midnight Rose & The Seven Sisters (Lucinda R.) series.
Yes, I plan to, but not a lot of them (they're a ton of work). You'll see any plans for duologies, trilogies or 4+ books on my 'My Books' page, but I'll primarily be writing standalones.
1. I love all things cozy and vintage. You’ll never not see me without my gloves on as I adore lace, the smell of fresh books, and quills.
2. I like the color indigo, sunflowers and dahlia’s, and writing late at night. The Psalms is my favorite book of the Bible, though all wisdom literature (Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes) are books I enjoy as well.
3. For me, the best time to read is on a rainy day beneath a fuzzy blanket with a cup of Chai. I could sit and read for hours, so being comfortable is a must.
4. Favorite shows/movies include: BBC’s Merlin, The Good Doctor, Abbott Elementary, Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. I also enjoy period pieces and K-Dramas.
5. If I don't have music, I cannot function. 2010--2016's music and Gospel Pop dominates my Spotify.
